David James Archuleta is an American pop singer-songwriter from Murray, Utah who was the runner-up on the seventh season of American Idol. Prior to Idol, Archuleta won the children's division of the Utah Talent Competition at ten years old which led him to other television singing appearances. When he was twelve years old, Archuleta became the Junior Vocal Champion on Star Search 2. Archuleta's self-titled debut album was released on November 11, 2008 through Jive Records and it debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album has sold over 725,000 copies in the United States and over 900,000 copies worldwide. On August 12, 2008, the first single off his major label debut album, "Crush", was released. The song landed on #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 as its highest peak position.
